OUR GROUP / OUR PLACE

A WHOLE LOTOF HEART.

We’re 2nd Milford Haven Sea Scouts. A local group with a love of adventure, a home in Gelliswick and plenty of stories to tell.

A PLACE TO
FIND YOUR FEET.

We help young people build life skills, form friendships and discover a spirit of adventure, teamwork and responsibility.

Our aim is a safe, engaging environment where young people can grow. Through Scouting, we encourage leadership, respect and commitment, with the support to try something new and the confidence to take part.

Our group was first registered on 7 December 1979. Its story sits within a longer tradition of Scouting in Milford Haven, with plenty of shared adventures along the way.

THE STORY SO FAR

A FEW CHAPTERS
FROM OUR ALBUM.

  1. Scouting takes root

Milford Haven’s original troops began in the early 1960s. Their adventures included potholing, go-karting and foreign exchanges, alongside canoeing, rowing, sailing, camps and jamborees.

This account of the earlier local troops comes from the group’s history page, which credits a Milford Mercury article of 20 November 2017.

  2. Our group is registered

2nd Milford Haven Sea Scouts was first registered on this date. The hut, the people and the activities in our archive are all part of the story that followed.

  3. Keeping the connection

In-person meetings stopped during the lockdowns, and Scouting moved online. Leaders worked to keep the sections active through a difficult period.

Fewer young people and leaders returned afterwards, putting pressure on the group. Dedicated volunteers and the gradual return to normal life helped the hut survive and the sections rebuild.

  4. Building things back up

Young people moved from Beavers into Cubs, while older Cubs prepared for Scouts. Leaders joined, others moved on, and the trustee board grew as the group continued to develop.

The group’s record of this period also notes new lighting in the main hall, a new rear fire door and new heaters in the training rooms.

GOT A PIECE OF THE STORY?

Our history is still being gathered.

Old photographs, names, memories or a detail about the hut can all help. The group is particularly keen to hear more about its story between the 1960s and 2021. However small it seems, we’d love to hear it.

GOOD PEOPLE.
GREAT POSSIBILITIES.

Our leaders and trustees help keep the group moving. There are opportunities for adults as well as young people, whether you’re interested in helping with activities or supporting the group behind the scenes.

The group can explain the opportunities, time commitments and steps involved in volunteering.
